Develop, support, promote volunteerism.

"The ExxonMobil CSJP gave me the experience I needed to apply towards a professional career. It also showed me the importance and vital need for work in the nonprofit sector."

ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program
Introducing college students to the nonprofit community.

Each year, ExxonMobil provides approximately 65 local nonprofit agencies with grants designated to hire college interns for eight weeks during the summer. Students are introduced to a variety of nonprofit organizations in the hope that they will consider careers or volunteer leadership positions in the nonprofit sector. Agencies enjoy the extra staff help during the season when many employees take vacation. Internship positions include social service agencies, youth camps, marketing, computer technology, development, community outreach and more.

In addition to working at the nonprofit agencies, interns attend two development seminars. Topics include careers in nonprofit, presentation skills, career development, and cultural diversity. Students also participate in a community service project as a group.

Agency Criteria
Grant applications are available in October of each year, and participating agencies are selected in January. Both agencies designated 501(c)(3) by the IRS and governmental agencies located in Harris County are eligible to apply for the grants. Agencies that did not attend the information session in September 2006 need to contact Christy Foss before submitting their application.

Intern Criteria
Once grants have been awarded to approximately 65 nonprofit organizations, the agencies themselves are responsible for recruiting, interviewing and hiring their summer interns by May 1, 2007. Interns must be enrolled as undergraduates, classified as sophomores, juniors, or seniors, and will be returning to college full-time in the fall. Interns also must not have immediately family members employed by ExxonMobil or any agency of interest. A comprehensive participating agency listing will be posted in February 2007 and students may then apply directly to the agency(ies) of their choice.
